Charity Cycle Ride
LES THOMAS IS TAKING PART IN A CHARITY CYCLE RIDE FROM CARDIFF TO PARIS WITH THE INEXUS GROUP TO RAISE FUNDS FOR PERTHES ASSOCIATION
The event takes place on April 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th 2008 and Les is hoping to raise at least £1000 and we hope that you will support him.
Here is Les’s story:
In May 1995, out of the blue, our son Liam, aged 4 years, experienced pain in his right hip and leg and could only walk with a limp. After a period of investigation at he had an x-ray and was diagnosed with Perthes disease. We had never heard of Perthes disease before and as a family we were devastated.
The support given by the Perthes Association was invaluable. They offered advice, information and moral support. The practical guidance on little things such has how to adapt clothes to fit over the broomstick plasters was invaluable and they even advised the education authority on how to gain funds to assist in disability access and additional care at his school.
Liam was in was in plaster for some 18 months and for almost two years an Orthopaedic Paediatric Consultant monitored Liam’s condition. During this time, mobility was severely restricted and Perthes Association provided a hand-propelled trike for his enjoyment.
The good news is that Liam is now 16 and leads a very active lifestyle. He is a 5-handicap golfer and has already been Club Junior Champion in the Grove Golf Club, Porthcawl.
As you can imagine we are all very thankful for this and are especially grateful to the support of the Perthes Association as well as all the professionals involved.
Consequently when possible I like to contribute to the Perthes Association’s charity work, which does so much to help not only the children but also the parents of those suffering with the disease.
This year I have decided to take part in a charity cycle ride from Cardiff to Paris, which being organised by the company I work for over 4 days from April 2nd. I would like to thank the INEXUS GROUP for contributing towards Accommodation, ferry and return flights which means that all money raised will go directly to the Perthes Association.
