Life One Big Adventure for Ben!

Ben Hart aged 16 was presented with the Medal for Meritorious Conduct a top Scouting Award by the County Commissioner. He also received a certificate and a personal letter from Bear Grylls the Chief Scout. The award was "in recognition of his strength and determination for Scouting despite suffering from a debilitating health condition, his enthusiasm is a true inspiration to others"

Simon says “It’s not all doom and gloom”.

My name is Simon Scarborough and I am 36 years old and was diagnosed with Perthes at the age of 7 and got signed off from the Leicester Royal Infirmary at the age of 15 The pictures on your website remind me of the same treatment I went through, with the broom across both plastered legs & a special wheel chair, I remember the plaster being on for a long time. After a few years of being self conscious when I was growing up wondering what I could do or couldn't do, I am now trying to be as active as possible, although you need to ensure the doctors clarify whether they believe the child will have any limitations playing football, cricket etc.,

Fundraising Team from UK Retail Finance at the Royal Bank of Scotland come up trumps!

20 people from the UK Retail Finance Team of the Royal Bank of Scotland (we are mainly accountants in the team) decided to help Perthes Association. As a result we raised an amazing £3000 - this is how we did it!

Tommy Hill – Nothing’s gonna stop him now!

As a small boy Tommy Hill suffered from Perthes' Disease, and although he had corrective surgery at the age of six which left his right leg shorter, his dream was to become British Superbike Champion,he was crowned the British Superbike champion at Brands Hatch on 9th October 2011.

Max Foley’s Dad and his friends take the 3 Peaks Challenge!

Our story was first published in December, just as Uncles Stephen and Gordon completed a 100k bike ride, raising £2491.51. Since then Max has been signed off by Mr Nejad, as to all of our amazement, his hip had re-formed to an almost a rounded shape. When we were first told about Max having Perthes, we were told it could be a 4/5 year process. Max has been very lucky and through all of our perseverance, and an operation undertaken by Mr Nejad, he has completed the whole process in just under 2 years. Fortunately Max's bones have re-grown in virtually the shape they should and now his bones have hardened he can resume normal life as a 6 year old.
