An update for you all - Ben has now been invited to a major Scouting parade at Windsor Castle late April. After extensive residential physio his mobility is better at the moment. He will have further surgery in July, but has now signed on for gold D of E. Scouting (like everything else) has to be accessible to all and although it may take a bit of work and adaptation it can be done! Good luck and if in doubt about expeditions, look into Special needs accessible ones, that is how Ben completed his silver.

This is such a wonderful story and very inspiring. We finally persuaded our daughter Emma to join scouts - their new climbing wall helped! She will be going up to scouts in March next year and we worry about her taking part in the expeditions. This story gives us great hope.

Congratulations on completing the London Marathon. That in itself is an achievement without the added condition. Great job. Thank you for inspiring my son and us and by showing us that even though their are restrictions and pain, at the moment, the future is good! Telling a 6 year old 'no' 'not possible' 'doctors orders' etc is very defeatist but when I can add 'soon' 'not long' 'not for ever' it makes it a little more bearable for him {and us}. Many, many thanks for keeping us in touch with hope :D xx

We would like to thank Elaine for her very kind donations {royalties} to Perthes Association through 'Mikey's Page'. Mikey {our son} attends the local infant/junior school with Elaine's children. Since the new diagnosis with Mikey for Perthes and advertising through JustGiving for donations to the association Elaine has been a constant support in doing whatever she can in making this disease more known to the public. The local book signing evening that she held with the Mayor, in Wrexham, was a fantastic time for her to advertise the Perthes Association to which she did brilliantly. We have purchased two of the magnificent books {one is kept for Mikey} and found the poems very humorous. Great work Elaine both on your book publishing and your generosity to the Perthes Association. You are an inspiration to us as Mikey is to you. Thank you xx
